The World's Most Awesome Readers

To those of you who've been writing to wish me luck with THE RIVER OF SHADOWS writing marathon--and to forgive my unreachability and the dormant state of this blog--my message is

YOU ROCK.

I write alone; I live in a deep winter nowhere with a valiant partner and a few animals, I wake up and stumble through the gates of a dreamworld at the door of my study. I truly love my job, but it's so much easier to love every time I learn that the books have done something for somebody.

Energized, now, I'm rushing back to an attempted beheading on the lower gun deck. Yours, manic as ever--RVSR

Dear Robert,

there is nothing to forgive.
People are different. Some need a busy surrounding to work. Other prefer hermitage.

As a reader I really appreciate who much energy you spend for writing. And as long as you are writing I forgo any messages from you.

But of course it is good to hear that you are still alive and well.

As ediFanoB says, there's nothing you've done that needs our forgiveness. The fact that you write untold quantities of awesome for our benefit elevates you above the need to excuse your hermitage.

When you consider how much contact a writer had (or didn't have) with his or her fans before the Internet, I think you're being generous with your time to respond to comments and let people know about the progress of the next book. It's a privilege to be allowed glimpses into the life and mind of a writer I admire so much. And kudos to your valiant partner.

Robert,

I think you have the readers (fans) you deserve and we (readers, fans) have the author we deserve.
When I look at the comments to this post and the last post I recognize a mutual appreciation which is not self-evident.

Robert-
I think it's more like... YOU ROCK! It seems we're all on the same page here. We all feel honored when you make an appearance and say hello and give us glimpses into your life as well as the lives of your characters. We know you're busy writing and I, for one, am thankful for it because I can't wait to devour the next bit of work coming out.
