The Night of the Swarm: New Publication Date (no, not earlier...)

Well, it's time to say it officially: the publication date for The Night of the Swarm has been pushed back from May 25 to August 16. The U.S. publication by Del Rey will also be moved to coincide.

I'm told this had nothing to do with the state of the manuscript. It was an internal decision by my publisher, Gollancz, part of some kind of house-wide reorganization. I don't know anything more than that, I'm afraid. But I'm do get the feeling that my editor and the whole fantastic team there regret it.

Let me just say that I, too, regret this delay very much. I am moved and humbled and grateful and thrilled to have such enthusiastic readers, and if I could, I'd put the book in your hands tomorrow. But I can promise you this: I've done everything in my power to make Swarm a thoroughly satisfying conclusion to The Chathrand Voyage Quartet. After giving a meaningful piece of my life to the series, I couldn't have dreamed of doing less.

I'll have some lengthy excerpts available soon, so watch this space. Thank you, readers, for your intelligence, your praise and criticism, your understanding.

I will try to look at it as an extra three months for the anticipation to grow. As Sherlock Holmes said, "We must possess our souls in patience." Lengthy excerpts will help.

Nicely put! I'll be getting those excepts together soon. And maybe even something fun and unusual.

Any chance that the delay might mean that the audiobook version will hit the shelves at the same time as the hardback?

Martin--great question, I'd like to know myself. I'll look into the pub date for the audiobook. Cheers!

YAY! I'm late to the party, started the series 3 days ago and it's going to be finished soon; so I can go on a non-stop reading binge! I love the first book - love!

Also - audiobooks! Do we know where and when?

Thanks for taking the time to discuss this, I feel about it and love learning more on this topic. If possible, as you gain expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more information? It is extremely helpful for me.
